A strong presence and enthusiastic response at ETCEI 2026 for the IEEE Student Branch UOI–Arta, the Epirus XR Center, and the HCI Lab
The participation of the IEEE Student Branch UOI–Arta, the Epirus XR Center, and the Human–Computer Interaction Laboratory (HCILAB) of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Ioannina at the international conference Emerging Tech Conference – Edge Intelligence (ETCEI 2026), held on October 22–23, 2026, in Ioannina.
Their joint presence at the conference exhibition hall attracted a large number of visitors, who had the opportunity to experience firsthand interactive applications, research prototypes, and innovative technologies in the fields of Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The keen interest and substantive discussions with students, researchers, and professionals highlighted the momentum of the activities taking place in Arta.
Participation in the scientific program was also particularly successful, featuring the presentation of the paper “EdgeSpace AI: Human–Computer Interaction for a Lightweight IoT Digital Twin in Smart Indoor Spaces.”
This paper presents an innovative approach to utilizing Digital Twins, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence to create smart indoor spaces.
At the same time, the presentation of the team and its activities made a strong impression, highlighting the connection between the student initiative and applied research, creativity, and technological innovation.
A highlight was the television broadcast on ERT2, which provided additional publicity for the team’s work and the research and technological activities taking place in Arta.
Participation in ETCEI 2026 provided a significant opportunity for scientific networking, outreach, and the promotion of the work of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, confirming that Arta can serve as an active hub for research, student creativity, and technological innovation.
Warm thanks to the organizers, to everyone who visited the booth, as well as to the students and collaborators who contributed to our successful participation!
