Three professors from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications have been included in the 2026 “Top 2% Scientists” international database

Three professors from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Ioannina
are included in the updated international “Top 2% Scientists” database 2026, which was developed by
a research team led by John P. A. Ioannidis and is available through the Elsevier Data Repository.

Chrysostomos D. Stylios — Career-long Impact category.

Ioannis G. Tsoulos — Career-long Impact category.

Alexandros T. Tzallas — Single-year Impact category.

All three fall within the main scientific field “Information & Communication Technologies” and the
subfield “Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing.”

The database utilizes standardized bibliometric indicators, such as citations, h-index, adjusted hm-index,
and the composite c-score. Version 9 was published on October 7, 2026, with Scopus data through the end of
2025. The two categories—lifetime achievement and annual impact—are distinct and do not constitute
a single, comparable ranking.

The inclusion of three members of the same department in this international database highlights the impact of the research
conducted at the School and strengthens its international scientific presence.

Bibliometric indicators represent one aspect of research contribution and do not replace the overall evaluation of
scientific work.

Statement by the Dean
“This international distinction is a special honor for our Department and our School. It highlights the systematic
effort, scientific consistency, and outward-looking approach of our faculty.
The inclusion of three professors
on this list brings us joy and pride and reinforces our commitment to supporting high-quality
research, innovation, and scientific collaboration.

Warm congratulations to all those who contribute
daily to the Department’s research efforts.”
Alexandros Tzallas | Dean of the School of Informatics and Telecommunications
